I remember once reading a 4chan thread where somebody said something like "those [people who browse 4chan's literature board] are crazy, they'll tell you to read James Joyce!"
The literary taste of anybody from 4chan aside, I still haven't checked for myself whether that condemnation was deserved
I read Ulysses and I'm still not sure why.
