I always thought it was really interesting how she seems to find an identity and then the end result is always, "You just… keep living?", and that forces her hand to fight against the identity she's built and remake herself over and over.
The moment of silence in the fifth panel really sells the moment for me. Never, Hanna.

I am both disappointed and oddly satisfied.
Sometimes the witch doesn't die. Sometimes her life gets optioned into a musical. Sometimes the marries a dorky redhead with a pot belly and a penchant for chess. And sometimes… sometimes, she was never really a witch at all.
Actually, that sounds like the best ending ever (I am biased in that I have a cute, dorky redhead with an adorable pot belly)
