Once upon a time I envisioned OP ending with the roommates moving out to go their separate ways. I had a twisted epilogue in mind, in a salt-the-earth fashion, where Eve and Hanna run into each other many years later, and gradually morph back into their tiny child selves as they catch up on life. In the end it just felt too bleak, too nostalgic, and it just wasn’t how I felt anymore. 2017 was the best year of my life. 2020 is the best year of my life. The girls have a shared past, but against all odds, it doesn’t define them. There is no symbolic continuity from their preschool days – they’ve both changed for the better. In short, I wanted OP to end in the present moment: no tearful goodbyes, just an inventorying of what brought them here. Eve and Hanna are best friends, who are also implicitly growing apart because they don’t need each other like they used to. It’s not the end; it’s just the new shape of things. |
I can't believe we're here again already!
I can't believe I emotionally have to deal with this comic ending AGAIN
Thank you for all of this. Your reflective commentary has been superb. Best of luck with the new endeavors! Will there be a Mac version?
After all these years it ends again…
Gosh I'm not ready for this to end again!
Can't believe tomorrow it all comes to a close again! Will I be emotionally ready a second time? (Probably not.)
I felt this was the perfect ending for Hanna and Marek – anything more definitive would have seemed too pat, and anything less would have felt incomplete. We don't know what happens, if one will compromise, but we do know that whatever happens both of them will move forward from here. Brilliant writing.
I love that it’s up to us to decide weather they make it or not. I can say from experience that people who fall apart can indeed fall back together again.
Yep, same moment every time. Knowing this is the last time we see Hanna and Marek in the twilight of the city night always breaks me and OP ending becomes real.
