This page was one of many acts of letting go: choosing to abandon a chapter and give it a basic summary inside a bigger, more interesting story. I continued this mind-dump in another strip, soon to follow. Having these untold histories meant OP characters never felt fake just a few inches off-screen. It was good for me to accept that these anecdotes WERE part of the story, that any good story, by necessity, has untold parts. |
"It was good for me to accept that these anecdotes WERE part of the story, that any good story, by necessity, has untold parts."
I think this is so true in any narrative medium, and it takes not just talent to achieve it, but also a reasonably constrained ego and impulse control to be able to first identify and then consistently pursue it as a goal.
Maybe the take is, "Don't kill your darlings, but do shove them aggressively off-screen!"
Or perhaps it's more of the ol' Vaudeville Hook . . .
Manuel and the Amazing Technicolor Dreambutt.

Manuel is probably another name pun, referencing a car's user manual, or its transmission
What? No, it's an actual given name that exists.
It might be a reference to the Fawlty Towers character, who is… not very smart.
I appreciate that we can just barely see Will smiling at the fact that Manuel's ass is right in Eve's face.

Cat who likes my boyfriend: +1000000000000000000
Realizing that one of Eve’s visions during her orgasm was, effectively, a multicolor sphincter: priceless.
